Introductory or Certification Preparation Course in the IFPUG Function Point Methodology

This workshop will cover the core concepts and techniques of Function Point Analysis (FPA), used to measure the size of software in Development and Maintenance Projects, as well as Information Systems Applications.

By the end of the course, you’ll be able to perform estimations and measurements based on the method defined by IFPUG.

The IFPUG Function Point Methodology preparation course is built on two pillars: theory and practice. Throughout the course, participants will work through multiple practical examples designed to help them understand each step of the methodology, which will then be reviewed and discussed collectively.

Prerequisites

The workshop can be taken by anyone, regardless of their prior knowledge. However, a background in IT project development is recommended, especially if the course is aimed at preparing for the CFPS/CFPP certification. In that case, prior knowledge of the IFPUG methodology is also advised to ensure participants get the most out of the training.

Course Structure

The course is divided into two phases: Learning (videos + online sessions with a tutor) and Review.

Learning Phase: Duration – 4 weeks

• Each week:
  • A set of theory videos will be released, along with practical exercises during some weeks.
  • Participants are expected to watch the videos and complete the exercises independently.
  • At the end of each week, a 1-hour live group session will be held via Teams to resolve questions and review exercises with the tutor.
• Each participant will be assigned a tutor, to whom they can send questions by email, and later review them together during the live group session.

Review Phase: Duration – 2 weeks

Participants will have access to all course materials for an additional two weeks to review the content.

Preparation for IFPUG CFPS / CFPP Certification

If participants aim to take the IFPUG CFPS or CFPP Certification Exam, they will also have access to specific preparation materials to help them face the official exam:

The review test and case studies will be completed and discussed during the final tutor-led session.
